Nugget Point Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located on the eastern coast of the South Island of New Zealand, near the town of Kaka Point, at the eastern end of the Catlin Coastline. It is perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean, providing stunning panoramic views of the surrounding coastline and the sea.
The lighthouse was first lit in 1870 and stands at a height of 76 meters above sea level. The unique octagonal shape of the tower and its red and white stripes make it a distinctive landmark in the area.
Visitors can access Nugget Point Lighthouse via a short walking track that leads from the car park to the lighthouse. The track passes through beautiful coastal vegetation, and there are several viewing platforms along the way that offer breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and the ocean.

I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow).. The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico.
