The day after the Packers won the Superbowl, we had a very big snow fall (18" or so), which shut down the city. In commemoration of the win the dome of the Capitol was lit up in green and yellow (presumably for the packers, although those are the colors for both Australia and brazil). After taking photos of the Capitol (available here), I turned around and took this hdr image of a deserted State Street. I decided it would make a much better black and white image. A lot of people wonder when it was taken (they all think it is older than it really is), and it also reminds people of the film 'it's a wonderful life'. State Street is a popular pedestrian mall located in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. It stretches from the Wisconsin State Capitol building to the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and is lined with shops, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues.State Street is a major cultural hub in the city, featuring many historic buildings, street performers, and public events t...
I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow).. The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico. Now I find the beauty around where I live in Madison. If you live in the Madison area, contact me, and I can print images for you (save on postage).
