Artist's Description
Panorama looking west across the Rio Grande (hidden in the valley). The town of Socorro is on the left. The prominent peak, center left is M-Mountain (also known as Socorro Peak. The are around M-Mountain is generally off limits as they do a lot of explosives research there (episodes of Mythbusters have been filmed there). The small peak, center right, is Strawberry Peak. (its claim to fame is that somebody built a shrine to arriving UFOs on the summit). The hills on the right are the Polvadera Mountains. The mountains in the background are the Magdalena Mountains. These mountains mark the western edge of the RioGrande Rift. A view form the top of the Magdalena Mountains looking east is also available in my New Mexico gallery.
About Steven Ralser
I am a nature and landscape photographer based in Madison, WI, with images from around the world. I am originally from Australia, but have lived in New Brunswick, Canada, and Socorro, New Mexico, before moving to Madison. I am trained as a geologist, and still teach introductory geology classes (need to pay the bills somehow).. The love of the outdoors has strongly influenced my photography, initially in Australia, but then in the the NW Territories of Canada (I was there doing geology), and the desert of New Mexico. Now I find the beauty around where I live in Madison. If you live in the Madison area, contact me, and I can print images for you (save on postage).
